Ant-Man and the Wasp is a superhero action movie produced by Marvel Studios. The film is the second instalment to the Ant-Man franchise and is also a sequel to its previous film, Ant-Man. The film continues the story as we get to see Hank Pym working together with his daughter, Hope, along with Scott Lang in order to rescue Pym’s wife, Janet Van Dyne, after she shrunk microscopically and got stuck in the Quantum Realm. After two years of research, Pym and Hope finally manage to create a pathway to the quantum realm. Hope goes to buy a specific part from a smuggler named Sonny Burch but is betrayed by him. Hope and Lang fight off his men until a strange ghost-like creature shows up which escapes with Pym’s portable lab. The ghost turns out to be Ava Starr, a human being in an unstable state due to experimentations performed by his father. Pym’s former partner, Bill Foster, reveals that he has been helping Ava in order to get back to her normal state and that stealing Pym’s portable lab was a part of his plan. Foster also explains how he intends to use Janet’s quantum energy to cure Ava. Certain that this act will kill his wife, Pym refuses meanwhile Lang and Hope recover the stolen lab. The trio manages to open the pathway to the quantum realm through which, Pym manages to rescue Janet. Janet then gives some of her quantum energy voluntarily to Ava in order to stabilize her temporarily.
After the success of Ant-Man, director Peyton Reed expressed his desire to make a sequel, claiming that there was a whole lot more to add to the story. For this particular film, Reed wanted to make sure that the content supported equality amongst both the genders and for this reason, he not only worked on the character of Lang, but also made sure that the Wasp’s character received equal publicity and merchandise for the film. Reed explained how Ant-Man and the Wasp would feature a very complicated hero who would happen to be a female. Reed’s efforts were portrayed in the film as we got to see a whole new level of action coming Hope’s character which is played by Evangeline Lilly.
Moving on, the visual effects for this film were provided by companies which included Double Negative, Lola Visual Effects, Luma Pictures, Method Studios, Rodeo FX & Scanline. According to Reed, the effects used in Ant-Man and the Wasp were double in quantity and quality compared to the previous film. This argument is supported by the fact that this time around, viewers got to experience full sized buildings and cars being shrunk down to a microscopic level in the film.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is an overall amazing film which is full of action and adventure. One can admit that the director along with the actors, have done a magnificent job in making the film as entertaining as it is. The story is upright, the effects are realistic, and the action is indeed intense! Please don’t forget the ending credit scene.
