So I am about a month in on my blog journey, and I have to say that so far I am loving it. Like I said in the beginning this is definitely something that I didn’t think I would ever do but I kind of just put myself out there and took the plunge. Now I am far from what people call a “Blogging Expert” but I just wanted to share some of the things that I found along the way. Now this is not some sort of how to guide, it’s just simply things that I have started with.
This is one that I got lucky with, my friend Brian has been doing this for quite a while and has a well-established page already. I was able to reach out to him and pick up a few pointers on how and where to begin. Now you don’t have to know people that work in the area, with just a simple Google or YouTube search I am sure you will find plenty of options. You can take the route of figuring it out on your own, I just knew what I wanted and had to find the fastest way to get there.
Set Goals and Times
This one was not so easy for me. I am usually not someone that likes to come home from work and start working on something else. The good thing about having something that is your own and you feel passionate about is that, you don’t want to push it to the side all the time. Are there going to be those days where you are like, “Damn, I really don’t feel like doing this today”? Yes, there will be, How I’ve combated this is,
- Set days and times and stick with it
- You have to tell yourself that no matter what, I am going to wright on these days.
- Carry something with you to write down any ideas that you have (I just use my phone for this)
- Write, Write, Write
- Not matter what you write just start doing it, you can always fix it later.
Please don’t be that person, you know the one that spouts off some stuff but has no basis to back it up? This is probably my favorite part of it all, I love to constantly look up things or read deep into a subject when writing. I never want to be that person that gets called out on something and never have anything to fall back on. You literally have the world at your fingertips, so you really don’t have an excuse to not look into what you are writing about.
Jump into it
The longer you take the more change you have to second guess yourself. Just get in there and do it. Writing is something that I have always got into but the when it came to making it public is where I would always come up with some sort of excuse not to, once I did my first article it became much easier to keep doing it and made me ask that age old question, “why didn’t I do this earlier?
Don’t sweat the numbers
This is one I still have troubles with, there are going to be days where you check your and you will feel on top of the world. There will also be days when you check your numbers and ask yourself, what the hell am I doing this for. You just have to let it go, it is what it is. Yes, you want to be that site that has major traction and everyone is talking about, it might happen and it might not. You just have to keep going. You are running with thousands upon thousands of other Bloggers and they all are trying to reach that level. Which brings me to my next point.
Have fun with it
Just the simple fact that you put yourself out there and started something of your own says a lot about you. If you can’t have fun with it than what is the point. You create your own schedule, you write about what you want to write about, and have I said it’s all yours? You have to power to reach so many people and talk about anything you want, have fun and love what you are doing. I know this step sounds kind of cliché, but it is definitely a huge one to follow
So like I have said, I have been doing this for about a month now and I am loving it every step of the way. I am not doing this to be some sort of overnight sensation, I just simply wanted to put myself out there and do what I love. I hope there is something that can help you on your journey and don’ t forget if you need anything, help is just a few clicks away.
